Description

Seiko is easily identifiable as one of the best brands where you can find great timepieces for more accessible prices. But its history dates back to the 19th century, when in 1881 a young man named Kintaro Hattori opened a shop in central Tokyo where he started repairing and selling watches and clocks. It only took Hattori eleven years to found the “Seikosha” (“Seiko” meaning “exquisite”, “minute” or “success” and “sha” meaning “house”) factory, where he produced his first wall clocks, in 1892. In December 1924 the first watch to have the “Seiko” name was launched, beginning the pathway of a brilliant brand synonymous with accessibility, accuracy and innovation.

The timepiece showcased is part of Seiko’s Recraft series, which is a throwback to the brand’s heritage and retro-styling. This particular iteration (SNKM97) immediately steals our attention to its unique dial, an emerald green that changes from light to darker green or even black according to the light conditions. The golden hour hand, minutes hand and hour markers aren’t luminescent and you can see a day and date window at 3 o’clock. Finally you have a contrasting orange central seconds hand and a black outer minute ring that completes this dynamic and rich dial. Further upgrading this timepiece’s 70’s look, we have a cushion shaped case with a diameter of 43,5mm with short lugs. Its 7S26 automatic self-winding movement has 21 jewels and provides up to 40 hours of power reserve, with a 50 meters water resistance (may handle water splashes, but you shouldn’t adventure to swim or dive with it). A flat Hardlex crystal covers the dial. The stainless-steel bracelet, with brushed outer links and polished center links, helps to accomplish the 70’s aesthetics, but this watch also adapts very well to a leather strap if that’s your preference.

All in all, this is a watch with a lot of character, elegance and presence, a beautiful everyday dress watch with strong vintage vibes and some sporty nods that will accompany you in your daily formal or casual situations.
