Seiko is easily identifiable as one of the best brands where you can find great timepieces for more accessible prices. But its history dates back to the 19th century, when in 1881 a young man named Kintaro Hattori opened a shop in central Tokyo where he started repairing and selling watches and clocks. It only took Hattori eleven years to found the “Seikosha” (“Seiko” meaning “exquisite”, “minute” or “success” and “sha” meaning “house”) factory, where he produced his first wall clocks, in 1892. In December 1924 the first watch to have the “Seiko” name was launched, beginning the pathway of a brilliant brand synonymous with accessibility, accuracy and innovation.

The timepiece presented here is a Seiko SKX007-J1, perhaps Seiko’s most well know and iconic watch, that already has a significant group of followers. This watch is, and has been for some years, the “entry drug” to the watch collecting addiction of many collectors worldwide. If you never saw one in person, trust us… it will impress. Even more if you consider the budget needed to acquire this watch in comparison with others that will certainly take a bigger hit to your wallet. And lets not forget its reputation for accuracy, practicality and durability. This is also a J1 reference, which means that it’s really made in Japan, unlike the K reference. The first thing that stands out is that the “whole package” just gets everything right in terms of aesthetics. The black dial is super legible, under Seiko’s Hardlex scratch-resistant synthetic mineral crystal, with a handy day-date window a 3 o’clock and great luminescence on the hands and hour markers that will get you a great read in darker conditions. The crown is comfortably positioned at 4 o’clock, further contributing to the sporty looks of the watch. The unidirectional metallic bezel has a beautiful and practical polished ribbed outer surface, which gives a firm grip to turn in harder conditions. Its 7S26 automatic self-winding movement has 21 jewels and provides up to 40 hours of power reserve. And you can also count with a 200 meters water resistance to get you through your underwater trials. This watch was never worn and comes in factory condition, with its full set, minus the stickers (it only has the case back sticker), as shown in the pictures.

This is the only daily usage and diver watch you may need, with the toughness required for your adventures, but also a chameleon adequate for more formal occasions. This one is a looker, either with a metal bracelet or a leather strap. A truly accessible all-rounder timepiece with a reputation to match.

The post Seiko SKX007-J1 first appeared on RF Timepieces.

When you hear the brand name “Doxa” your thoughts go immediately to diving watches and the iconic Doxa Sub. However, this is a brand with a much richer history, created in 1889 in the Swiss region of Le Locle by Georges Ducommun. Throughout the years you could find Doxa timepieces setting the standards in automotive (such as Bugatti), nautical and aviation context.

First launched in 1967, the Doxa Sub 300T has established itself as one of the most recognisable diving or utilitarian watches in the market. Its success was determined by the many new features it presented, such as the unique bezel with an inner elapsed time scale and an outer secondary ring with the United States Navy No-Decompression dive chart (allowing the wearer to determine decompression times and safe periods between dives). It was also supported by the diving world legend Jacques-Yves Cousteau and the United States Divers group.

Besides its patented bezel, the DOXA Sub 300T models are available in a few different dial colours (including the characteristic and iconic orange dial, that was a first in dive watches when it was introduced), a “cushion” case, box glass and a “beads-of-rice” bracelet with a spring-loaded diver’s extension, all of these creating the DOXA SUB300T iconic design.

The timepiece we’re presenting is not just another Doxa Sub 300T Professional with its unique orange dial with Super LumiNova details. This is a reference number 879.10.351.10, the 50th Anniversary Edition released in 2019, celebrating the 50 years of the launch of the Sub 300T Conquistador that was the first general diving watch with a helium release valve. Its case and bracelet are made of 316L stainless steel, the later featuring a folding clasp with the Doxa symbol. Along with its patented bezel and a sapphire crystal, this watch is waterproof to a depth of 1200 meters, rated to pressures up to 120 bar. This watch comes in the original Doxa box, with its original warranty card, as seen in the photos, and has been revised by an experienced watchmaker.

This is the diving watch that shows your acquaintance, wearing a respectful and dependable brand with a special model associated with a rich horological history and real-world deep seas adventures, that will go down in time as one of the most iconic diving watches ever produced.

The post Doxa Sub300T Professional 50th Anniversary Edition first appeared on RF Timepieces.
